Perspective View

Designers and directors alike agree that the Perspective View has been one of the most influential tools since entering the "3D Java" era. With the Perspective View, you are able to see your designs from any angle or view point imaginable. Feedback is displayed in real time. Take a look at that form before committing to it. There's no setup for this feature. Click and drag any direction to adjust pitch and deviation of your view.

Go a step further with the Perspective View and customize your ensemble's instrumentation and uniform for an even more realistic approach. With Version 5, you can add customizable figurines to the Perspective View. These figurines can be edited to resemble your ensemble's uniform color and instrumentation.

To add figurines to your Perspective View, you must first enable them in the Application Options. Go to your File menu, and choose Application Options. A new window will open up; choose the Display tab. On the Display tab you will see a check box for "Use 3D Figurines."

Once the figurines are enabled, you may then set the instrumentation for your ensemble in the Cast List. To do so, go to your Utilities menu and choose Cast List Editor. You will see a column for "Figurines" on the Cast List. Here is where you can assign an instrument for every performer on your Cast List.

To change the figurines' uniforms, go to your Utilities menu and select the Figurine Editor. Here you have two different sets of figurines, the Standard Set, and the Custom Set.

The Standard set is the default figurine set when 3D is installed. Editing this figurine set will change figurines for all drill files that do not have a custom set saved to them.

The Custom Set is saved directly to a drill file (the drill must be a drill package or production) to be saved as a Custom Set. Custom Sets only apply to specific drill files. If you start a new drill, the Standard Set will be present. To add a previously saved Custom Set, you must first save the drill as a package file or production, then the "Add Custom Set" button in the Figurine Editor will become enabled.

Once you choose to edit either the Standard or Custom Set of figurines, a new window will open displaying a figurine from many different angles. Choose which figurine to edit from the Figurine drop-down menu. Click on a uniform part to change, then select a color on the color palette. Once you are content with your revisions, click "Save" to accept your changes.

Facing can be established in Version 5 on any count in your drill. While this can be applied on the design grid, facing is also shown in the Perspective View.

To change the facing of performers, first choose the count range (this is typically from set to set) the Performer's facing will change. Select your performers on the field. Choose the Facing Tool on your Tool Palette. On the Facing Tool Control Panel, click the direction on the compass you would like your performers to face. This will apply the facing to the performers for whatever range of counts you had specified.

Version 5 Interactive and Professional users can set user defined "cameras" to quickly switch between different views. Whether you want to see what the field judge or the fans will, you get to decide where and when to watch your show.

To set camera angles, adjust the view to your liking. Once you have decided the view is one you would like to keep, click the "set" button on the bottom frame of the Perspective View. This will open a new window, prompting you to choose which camera to save this view to. Once you select a camera number, you will be returned to the Perspective View. Click the corresponding camera button for the camera number you assigned your view point to. You can repeat this process as many times as you would like, while saving 6 view points at once.
