My original thread of this topic seems to have been lost in the transition to this new host...but no matter:

I downloaded the version 4 demo (btw...LOTS of nice new features...the sequential push tool will save me SO much time...), and the response time is still quite slow when I do a select all, along with a few select other functions.

help...?

How many performer's are you doing a select all on?

I am attempting to recreate this on my machine here.

Also Check one thing under the Application Options, in the system info tab. I need to know the version of Java the software is using. This is on the Version 3 and the Version 4 Demo.

Hey Dustin-

Thanks for looking in to this for me. The slow response time for the select all happens at every level of band size...I have one with only about 50 on the field, a bunch that are medium sized (100 - 150), and one that is over 240. The program takes a little less time to "think" for the smaller bands, and more for the larger bands, but all the repsonse times are slow across the board. Other issues with the response time and things just generally lagging include:

--Using the pointer and the box tools to select and deselect performers (it is not just the select all feature that is slow...)

--I'm running the 4.2 demo...just downloaded it the other day. And I am running version 3.1.1 of the full program

I need to know the version of Java the software is using to run. This can be found in the Application Options Menu in the System Info Tab.

I need to know the version of Java the 4.2 is using and the version of Java the 3.1 is running on your machine.

Whoops! Sorry I have taken so long to get this info to you...been a busy fall..but here is what you asked for:

3.1 is running 1.0.5_16

the 4.1 demo is also running 1.0.5_16

I hope that is what you were looking for...

I also wanted to mention more of the little bugs that seem to plague me:

I use the pre-defined text boxes a lot (but I hate having to scroll down in the drop down menu...more mouse movements...can't the drop down menu just get longer and always display all of my saved boxes if I decide I need 10 or more?). For some reason, all of my text boxes when I first insert them have a "?" on the 2nd line, left side...I have to delete that question mark before I can start typing the instructions. Also, the formatting of the instructions (simple things like when like pressing enter to just down to the next "line" to start a new sentence, or if I tab or indent or get fancy with my text box formating like that) will disappear when I press accept and the clear individual sentences will jam together at the top of the text box, all the spaces having been revmoved. I have to open the text box tool palette again, click on the the incorrect text box, at which point the original formatting jumps back into place somehow, then press accept again and then it will stay the way I typed it. This happens for EVERY text box...and having to accept each one twice is a pain.

The grid moving/shift tool/function (the crossed arrows up next to the zoom feature) is really hard to manipulate...very insensitive and it usually takes 6 or 7 sudden swipes of the cursor (with the button depressed) to get it to "grab" the grid and shift it, which usually ends up selecting several elements of performers that might be in the area) to get the field to actually move just a touch. Precise positioning of the grid on my screen is nearly impossible. The grid doesn't move "real-time" with my mouse or cursor...I have to make a motion with the mouse in the direction I want to move it and then wait for the gr...would be great to just use my arrow keys and be able to "nudge" it up or down or sideways...does vers. 4 fix this?

I have preferred placements for the tool palettes and information boxes and such on my screen when I'm working....they used to open up in their correct positions when I opened a file or started up the program, but they stopped doing that a while ago, and always open in their default positions, and I have to grab each one and move it where I want it.

My "About Pyware Java 3D Interactive" function on the menu bar drop down menu has never functioned at all.

In the Symbol and Label font selection functions, every time I open them the font and font size have reverted to a default size rather than the one I selected previously.

Sometimes when I am changing the symbol of a performer during the drill--usually guard--I will make sure I assign the various symbols to the appropriate counts, only to find 30 later they symbols have altered their counts (usually other symbols will just go away and I'll have them as a flag again the whole tune even though I just programmed in a rifle line for part of it.

So I think that is a most or all of the bugs I'm experiencing in my 3.1.1, most of which have been around since I bought the software and first installed it. Some have appeared later, when updates were installed (like the key board short cut editor that has short-term memory issues and "forgets" all my shortcuts), and the gereral slow response time happened when I installed the program on my new MacBook in June.

Hopefully some light will come out of all these issues I'm having. I just made it through my 4th season with this copy of Pyware licenced to to me and the issues are slowing me down, and with 10 shows to write, that becomes an issue.

Also, I posted a few thoughts/suggestions I've been thinking about for improvements to the software in the future in the forum designated for such things...

All of the issues that your are experiencing should be accessible in the Demo. If you could download and install the version most current version 4.2.12. This demo was uploaded today. Please download and install this version and see if this corrects your issues.
