Best Grid Design Color Options

Can anyone recommend the best color design options for the grid when sending a PDF that will then be printed by the director?

Sometimes I set what I think is correct and each step in the grid looks the same not leaving any difference between the yard lines, 4 step and 1 step. Other times I think I got it and it prints where I can only see the 4 step and yard lines.

A good set of colors for doing photocopies of a drill chart would be as follows:
All Colors are RGB values
Division Lines - 0,0,0
Sub-Division Lines - 64,64,64
Step Grid - 160,160,160
Hashes - 0,0,0
Markers - 0,0,0
