I had a problem with the latest upgrade to Quicktime 7.0.4 that came though system upgrades today. After I installed, my 3D Java wouldn't open. Instead I got an icon that looked like a red ball with a jet plane flying around it. After a lot of messing around, I reinstalled Quicktime 7.0.1 and everything works just fine. Anyone else have this problem? I assume don't do anymore system upgrades on Quicktime.

This problem will effect everyone using java based applications being run on OS 10.3.9. We will continue testing the updates that become available for Quicktime to test compatibility. We will notify our users via this forum when there is a change in the quicktime update that is compatible to Java Applications.

Quick time update version 7.1

Apple just recently released an update to Quicktime version 7.1. Do not update to this version of quicktime on OS 10.3.9. This will cause the same issue as reported in version 7.0.4. If you have installed this update you will need to reinstall version 7.0.1. There is currently not an Apple issued reinstaller. We are currently searching for alternative solutions while we wait on a Apple issued solution.

Dustin,

Is this also an issue for MacOSX 10.4.6? I have one of the new Intel based MacBook Pros and I am going to purchase Java 3D shortly...

Thanks!

This issue is only on OS 10.3.9. The version of quicktime does not affect the 3D Java software on OS 10.4.6 or Intel based Macs.

Dustin: Has this issue be solved. I was just wondering before I update my software for Quicktime. I run 10.3.9 on my office computer.

The issue with quicktime resides within the java running environment that is built within the Operating system and Quicktime its self. I have contacted Apple in regaurds to this, but their relpy only gave me two options.
1.) Update to OS 10.4 Tiger
2.) Install an older verison of quicktime.

These are the only options that have been provided to me by Apple.

What I am assuming is that they will not be addressing this issue since it is a Legacy OS now and does not function on the new machines. So they only options that we would have would be to either upgrade the OS or downgrade the quicktime.

I am sorry that I do not have a better answer for you.

After some repairs on my computer, they updated my Quicktime. I tried this link but Apple said it was an "outdated link." Any suggestions to get back to the old quicktime?
