[FIXED] Degraded 3D and overall performance

Post by Gabe » Thu Nov 22, 2012 12:02 am

My installation of Pyware (7.04) ran smoothly with no problems up until a few days ago. All of a sudden there is a significant drop in fps and the whole program just seems to be very clunky. I disabled smooth animations, shadows, and it still chugs along. Prior It ran perfectly smooth even while using screenflow to record at full 2880 X 1800 resolution, now using 3D view makes everything inoperable.

I'm wondering if you guys pushed a silent update recently? Maybe it's a bug?

Please go to System Preferences and then choose energy saver. Then deselect the check box that says automatic graphics switching. Please relaunch the software and see if you have the same performance issue.

What is the trick for Windows to help performance? Mine was running fine until recently too. Now there are tons of hiccups.
I enjoy charting military drills. Let me know if you need any assistance with one of them.

I initially suspected that was the issue, but I've always had that option off. Alternatively, i've been using gfxCardStatus to forcefully make the system use discrete graphics.

When i launch Pyware everything runs fine. The problems begin as soon as I open a drill file and the Real view window is open. Menus become slow, dialog boxes animate slow when opening, there is a noticeable lag when hovering over buttons, etc (it is the same even if I turn off shadows). As soon as I close or collapse the real view window and wait a couple of seconds, everything goes back to normal. It had absolutely no problem before having Real View window open.

I manually updated to Java 7 Update 9 to see if that made any improvements, but none unfortunately.

Is there a way I can rollback to say, V. 7.03? If theres no improvement using an older version, I can then isolate the problem being my hardware and not software.

Thanks for your reply during this Holiday break. Much appreciated!

Please restart the software and let it download new assets to see if that changes anything.

Please let me know if there is a change in performance.

Edit: You want to make sure that the computer is using the Nvidia Card when you run the Pyware. This increases the performance of Pyware 3D when you are running the Real View.

I restarted Pyware and then reopened once it installed the new assets.I made sure it was using my discrete card, but still no improvement.

I also tried using a lower resolution external monitor as the sole display to see if that alleviated graphics performance since my native resolution on my laptop is really extreme, but there was no improvement, still choppy and laggy. I thought maybe the file itself could be the problem since it's 500+ counts and ~150 performers. I tested a small 100 count file with around 40 performers and it still produced the same effect.

I'll also add the Real View window is at its default size, increasing the size of course makes everything worse, but I do notice that If i make it really small (about 320 x 200 pixels) it starts running smooth and the program itself is more responsive, but at that size it's kind of pointless to even use real view.

Are you plugged into power or running on Battery?

It may be best if I could connect to the machine and take a look at what could be happening.

I am unable to repeat the issue.

Let me know how to set that up so you can take a look.

Also heres a screen recording I did that explains the issues I am having.

Dustin,

I just now downloaded the new assets you guys pushed out. Everything is back to normal and running smooth. Not sure what exactly was the problem but this update seemed to fix it.

Thanks for your help!

Perfect, I dont know what could have caused the issue. I suppose that the assests did not install properly on the previous set.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
