HELP!!! File suddenly fails to open...

I cannot open the file I was just working on. I get the following error:

File Read Error
Unable to open file. (java.lang.NullPointerException)

Is there any way to recover this file? All of the backup files (5) are blank. I fear I've just lost a lot of work because the program is not allowing the file to open.

Make 10,000% sure you didn't install the Pyware-breaking Java update from Apple. Try installing from this link first:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572

If it doesn't work afterward, we have a larger problem.

Same issue here.
Unable to open file. (java.lang.NullPointerException)

All backups versions have the same result.
I reinstalled, but still no change.
The same thing then happened with a separate file.
Any way to find the null instance, correct and recover files?

Check the backup files first. The .1 will be the most current.
