iPAS Book1 doesn't run on Windows XP SP3

Post by terminus67 » Fri Oct 15, 2010 6:33 am

Have installed iPAS Book1, and the update on Windows XP SP3 but when attempting to run the mouse pointer changes to an hourglass briefly and then nothing happens. Have tried starting iPAS in Windows in Safe Mode and get the error message, "Problem setting up MIDI player. Reason: A device ID has been used that is out of range for your system."

License key expires in a day so help would be appreciated asap.

Update:

It seems that it's not an issue with the iPAS install but with the machine that it's being installed upon. The same install works on a Windows 7 machine but fails on the XP machine. The XP machine, which has SP3 installed, doesn't present the activation screen and subsequent attempts to run the installed iPAS software simply change the mouse pointer to an hourglass for a second and then nothing else happens. I have run MalwareBytes AntiMalware, SuperAntiSpyware, TDSSKiller, HiJackThis, RKill and various other tools to eliminate the chances that it's due to an infection but still no joy. About to try ComboFix...

Followed email instructions to download the installer from the website. At the end of the install, the dialog box asks the user to restart the machine now or later to complete installation. On clicking on 'now', another dialog appears titled, "Pyware iPAS" with text that says, "Launching iPAS to activate the installation....". This dialog stays on the screen indefinitely and no further progress is made. In the Pyware programs files installation folder, there is an 'error' text file which is apparently empty, an IPASS.ver text file that contains the following:

[Version]
AppMinorMinor=11
AppMinor=2
AppMajor=2
AppVer=2.2.11
AppPaddedVer=02.02.11
BetaBuild=0
IniFile=1

[Licensing]
SN=

and an hs_err file called, "hs_err_pid2376" text file that contains references to the AWT-WINDOWS thread. Contents attached.

This is a really frustrating issue which would be great to have resolved. I have uninstalled both Pyware iPAS and all JRE/ Java installations and reinstalled from the downloaded installer. This is running on a Windows XP Home Edition, SP3 machine.

Thanks
