Can't reinstall after hard disk crash

Mac G5 (older model) using 10.5. Hard drive completely crashed. After new drive installed, I tried to reinstall Version 4. It installs, but when trying to start it tries for about 5 seconds then quits.

Desperate for help - trying to write on version 2 on my laptop...
