Major slowdown in Mac OS 10.6

Post by leavetc » Sat May 11, 2013 9:36 pm

I just updated to 7.1.1 and am experiencing debilitating slowdown when 3D is open. so far I have restarted several times and repaired disk permissions. Any other recommendations? I'm using an iMac circa 2009 with 8 GB of RAM.

I had very weird issues surrounding Pyware 7.0 on Mac OS 10.7. Upgrading to 10.8 seemed to fix the issue for some unknown reason. Perhaps that may be the fix for you as well? I can't remember if that particular iMac can run 10.8, but Mactracker can tell you.

If you're dead set on staying with 10.6, open up the process viewer and see if anything is taking up valuable processor time outside of Pyware or the Java environment. There may be some kind of weird process that is taking up significant time that is in no way attached to Pyware or Java. If there is, and it isn't vital to the system or Pyware, kill the process (this works on my Windows laptop when Pyware acts sluggish also).

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Pyware and upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion. Performance is very slightly better but still not usable. Turning off Real View fixed the slowdown, but considering 7.0 ran just fine, this shouldn't be an issue. Is there anything else I can do? It's hard to believe that little ol' Pyware is more demanding than any of my game software.

Exactly which iMac do you have? There's an early, mid, and late 2009. Now if you have an ATI card in there, you may be able to use ATIccelerator, which might just help with RealView. BE WARNED--this can potentially fry your graphics card if used too much, because you're manually overclocking the card. BE FURTHER WARNED--I don't even know if those Radeons are even programmed in the app or not (the one for the 2011 Mac mini isn't)!

PS--the 2011 Mac mini is their baseline station for Mac testing. You might not need to 100% disable Real View and might just have to tone down the graphics some in order to get it running (i.e. disable shadows and the like). Go to the Real View tab and just disable to your hearts content, because I have to do the same thing with my Windows laptop.

How much ram do you have?
What graphics card do you have in the imac?

Have you turned off the shadows and smoothing to reduce demand?
Thank you

I have an early 2009 iMac with 8gb of RAM. The video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 9400. Here are my specs:

Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB (memory is shared with the system)
Software: OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

Here's the Everymac.com page: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/i ... specs.html

Not the best graphics card, I know, but Pyware 7.0 had no major problems running its Real View feature for me.

I noticed last night, after working VERY patiently in 7.1.1, that some of the models were a little "garbled." Maybe my 3D asset files are just broken and causing problems? This was a file created in 7.1.1. I have noted the issue in 7.0 files, but didn't expect it when I created a 7.1.1 file.

I do not use shadows in Real View because they are too demanding on the system. I used image smoothing in 7.0, but have disabled it in 7.1.1. I have disabled the HUD in Real View. Overall, I can watch an animation with a really low frame rate(probably around 10-20 FPS), but menus and buttons are extremely laggy or nonresponsive to clicks.

When you create a new file in 7.1.1 you do not experience the slowdown?

It begins when I open 3D with Real View active. Not bad at first, a little laggy, but gets really terrifying when I make around 40 performers. Also, here's that garbled performer I mentioned earlier:

That's a face on her foot there. Not sure if it's related to the slowdown, but I figured it couldn't hurt to show. I have reloaded 3D models from the Appications Options menu a couple of times, but it doesn't seem to correct anything after downloading and restarting.

That is a fabric issue that will require a new uniform fabric.

We are in the process of converting all fabrics listed in the forum to the new version 7.1 improved models.

The fabrics will be available for download when they are ready in our Fabric Gallery http://www.pyware.com/fabricgallery/.

If you would like to post a new fabric please create a new thread and post the pictures of your uniform using the Tips for posting fabric requests. http://www.pyware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5100

I'm also encountering the same slowdown. When real view is on it takes about 5 - 10 seconds for the program to respond to a click. It works fine with the old perspective view, but the real view really helps and I would love to be able to use it.

I would be willing to upgrade to Mountain Lion if I knew for certain it would make a difference. But the above response seems as though it did not make much difference.

Is the graphics card the problem? My specs should be plenty robust enough to meet the demands of this program.

Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)

We will have a solution for the performance issues with the Nvidia 9400 graphics cards. This will be released in the version 7.1.4 later this week.

You will need to have shadows and lighting effects disabled in order for the Real View to work properly due to the performance limitations of the graphics card.

I will post when the update is available.
